What Is Gastric Bypass Surgery?

Unlike the general misinformation on public, Gastric By-pass is metabolic surgery rather than weight loss surgery. It is performed for patients who have diabetes or similar metabolic diseases. The diabetes elimination rate of Gastric Bypass surgery is 90-95%. In this procedure, the surgeon leaves small pouch portion of the stomach connected to the Oesophagus. This pouch is stapled to seal it off from the rest of the stomach. The rest of the stomach is not cut or removed stays put. Dr connects the upper part of the small intestine (called duodenum) to the pouch has been newly created. When you eat, food directly goes through the upper portion of the small intestine. Since the small pouch no longer digests any food and the small intestine does the absorption of the minerals, vitamins, and calories, the body will absorb limited calories only.
