Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital - Overview

The Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital is located in Bangkok, Thailand. It is the oldest medical hospital and school in Thailand. It has been in operation for 120 years. It is a public tertiary care hospital providing medical services to the Thai people as well as patients from all over the world. It offers preventive, therapeutic, and palliative medical treatment plans. 


 The hospital was established in 1888 by King Chulalongkorn. The name Siriraj is coined from the King’s son who died from dysentery in the period of worldwide cholera outbreak. The hospital was has more than 2,300 beds and serves more than one million outpatients annually. It medical school on the other hand accepts around 250 medical students and over 100 postgraduate trainees per year.


 As a medical school, it offers various academic conferences each year. It also holds training programs for local as well as foreign medical doctors. Among its centres of excellence are its Heart Centre, Endoscopy Centre, Breast Centre, Organ Transplantation Centre, Bone Marrow Transplantation Centre, Biomaterial Centre, and Robotic Surgery Centre. It also publishes medical journals and publications for the advancement of medical research.
