About

With special interest in Hepatology, Dr. Ooi is currently the Principal Investigator for several international multicentre trials in Hepatitis-B. Dr. Ooi offers comprehensive consultative as well as procedural services such as: - OGDS - Colonoscopy and ERCP (both diagnostic and therapeutic) - Capsule endoscopy - Liver (albumin) dialysis - Argon plasma coagulation - Transarterial chemo-embolization - Radiofrequency ablation for liver cancer |

Professional Experience
|
After completing his undergraduate medical degree (MBBS) at University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia, he undertook his postgraduate training (in Gastroenterology / Hepatology / Internal Medicine) in both Brisbane (Australia) and Auckland (New Zealand). He became the inaugural Hepatology Fellow for the New Zealand Liver Transplant Unit in 1998.
Dr. Ooi was appointed Consultant Gastroenterologist/Physician in North Shore and Middlemore Hospital, Auckland before returning to Penang where he joined the Penang Medical College as Associate Professor of Medicine. At the same time, he was the visiting Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Penang General Hospital. Dr. Ooi was also appointed Trainer for the National Gastroenterology Training Scheme in Malaysia. |
