Dr Shukla has held a number of academic appointments in India and abroad, including a preceptorship at Stanford Medical School, California, USA. He underwent an advanced training program in Infectious Diseases at San Francisco General Hospital, California, USA. He worked as an Assistant Professor of Medicine on Deputation by External Affairs Ministry, GOI from 1996 to 1999.
