Casa Serenidad - Overview

Casa Serenidad is a treatment center for the alleviation of addiction, dependency issues, emotional disorders and eating disorders. Casa Serenidad is located in San Ramón de Tres Ríos, Cartago, Costa Rica in Central America, a five-hour flight from the United States.

The clinic was established in 2008 and has treated more than 100 people since. Casa Serenidad has a maximum capacity of 14 people at a time so that patients can benefit from individualized attention.

The Team

The experts at the Casa Serenidad include psychiatrists, psychologists, a nutritionist, a nurse, a physiotherapist, a personal trainer, a yoga instructor and a spiritual counselor. In total there are 14 clinical staff and 5 office staff at the Casa Serenidad.

Treatment Programs

The clinic offers a holistic service to treat drug and alcohol abuse, eating disorders, and emotional problems like depression, anxiety, narcissism and bipolar disorder. The interdisciplinary approach works with a cognitive behavioral model base to address issues of addiction, emotional and behavioral problems.

A typical treatment program at the Casa Serenidad consists of a stay, with accommodation included, of three months. All treatment plans must be more than 28 days in length. The Casa Serenidad program consists of four phases, including pharmacological therapy, individual, group and family therapy, physical therapy and spiritual therapy. There is also time for relaxation and fitness.

International Patients

According to the clinic, almost 50 percent of patients at the Casa Serenidad center come from Latin America including countries such as Panama, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. Other patients come from the United States and Europe. Many are referred by medical professionals but others are self-referrals or referred by family. Spanish is spoken at the clinic.
