About Dr Parvathi Iyer has been exclusively practising pediatric cardiac intensive care since early 1994. She also holds the unique position of being a pioneer in her field, being one of the first in India to seriously practise and set up Pediatric cardiac intensive care as a speciality.

Dr Parvathi Iyer has a special interest in topical problems relevant to India. Her interests include “Management of malnourished infants and children undergoing cardiac surgery.and “Peri-operative care of late presentation of congenital disease and management of severe pulmonary hypertension”. She is also interested in nutritional support of the critically ill neonate and older child, devising various forms of indigenous domiciliary hyper alimentation programmes for nutritional rehabilitation of cardiac cachexia - a widely prevalent problem in India.
Education Dr Parvathi Iyer completed her MBBS and MD from AIIMS, New Delhi. She has done her six year training and junior and senior residency program from Chandigarh and New Delhi. Subsequently she went to Royal Childrens’ Hospital, Melbourne for training in Neonatology and Intensive care where she also worked as a Locum consultant. Thereafter, she worked at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney in Perinatal medicine and Neonatal Intensive care as senior fellow and locum consultant. On her return to India in 1994, she worked as Assistant Professor in Intensive Care at the Cardio-thoracic Centre, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi for nearly two years. She joined the Escorts Heart Institute as a consultant in Pediatric Cardiac Intensive in September 1995 and was one of the core team members who helped to establish the department 13 years ago.
