About Dr Sng was amongst the first surgeons in Asia to be accredited in the use of several novel micro-invasive glaucoma surgery devices (eg. iStent, Aquesys XEN-45 gel stent, trabectome) even before they were available in Singapore. She is currently conducting a study investigating the use of the iStent in the treatment of angle closure glaucoma. She is also proficient in conventional glaucoma surgery (trabeculectomy, Ahmed glaucoma drainage device insertion and Baerveldt glaucoma drainage device insertion), and trained in complex cataract surgery, including the scleral fixation of intraocular lenses and femtosecond laser cataract surgery.

Dr Sng graduated from Gonville and Cauis College in Cambridge University with triple First Class Honours and distinctions. As the top medical student in her college, she was awarded numerous college prizes, including the Tucker's Prize for Medicine and the Charles and Iris Brook Prize. As a house officer, she received the SingHealth Best House Officer’s Award, and the Commendation Award for House Officer from the NUS Dean’s Office. She was also the most outstanding candidate in her year for the Ophthalmology Specialist Accreditation Examination, with Gold Medals conferred for being the best candidate in Glaucoma, Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Neuroophthalmology and Paediatric Ophthalmology. She is the co-author of a book, "The Ophthalmology Examinations Review", which is frequently used by ophthalmology residents who are preparing for postgraduate examinations, and has also authored several book chapters.

Professional Experience Dr Chelvin C. A. Sng is a Consultant and Assistant Professor who is subspecialty-trained in glaucoma, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. As a recipient of the Academic Medicine and Development Award, she completed the prestigious glaucoma fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, the largest eye hospital in Europe. During her fellowship, she was trained in the management of complex and severe glaucoma under the supervision of internationally renowned ophthalmologists, including Dr Keith Barton and Professor Sir Peng Khaw. After her fellowship, she remains an Honorary Consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital.
Awards Dr Sng is actively involved in research on glaucoma surgery and imaging. She was awarded the New Investigators Grant from the National Medical Research Council, which provided $200,000 research funding for her work on the "Novel Ocular Biometric Risk Factors in Primary Angle Closure Glaucoma". She is the co-inventor of a new glaucoma drainage device, which is currently undergoing patent application. For her research accomplishments, she has received international awards from the American Academy of Ophthalmology (Best Poster Prize), the Australian and New Zealand Glaucoma Interest Group (Travel Scholarship), the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (Travel Grant) and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (Best Paper of Session Prize).
