||Tony is a certified Substance Abuse and Gambling Addiction Therapist, accredited with the Asia Pacific Certification Board (APCB). He began his career in addiction treatment and recovery in the early 2000's, working with drug addicts and ex-offenders in therapeutic communities and prisons in Singapore. Subsequently, he joined We Care Community Services where he helped develop and run addiction-related programmes.
During his time running a We Care drop-in centre for people suffering from all kinds of addictions, Tony dealt with individual cases as well as counselled spouses, family members and groups dealing with chemical dependency, co-dependency, sex addiction and co-morbid conditions.
He has also worked with various non-profit and government agencies to actively promote the acceptance of addiction as well as the exchange of information amongst addiction professionals across Singapore. This led to his involvement in the “Yellow Ribbon Project” and two documentaries about his personal recovery journey titled “Confession of A Crime” in 2010 and “Owe money, Pay Money” in 2012.
Apart from his vast experience in substance abuse treatment, Tony also has a keen interest in gambling addiction treatment. Not only has he managed support groups in Singapore for populations with gambling issues – but was instrumental in initiating the 1st World Cup Gamblers Support Group, which was endorsed by Singapore Pools Pte Ltd, the government-owned lottery institute.
Besides his work in the field of addiction, Tony's other areas of interest include working with adolescents and youth.
