||The Spokesman's Office and Public Affairs is an integral part of the administration of Rambam Health Care Campus, placing relations with the media and the importance of transmitting information concerning public health as its highest priority.
The Spokesman and Director of Public Affairs is David Ratner, previously a journalist with Ha'Aretz who holds a BA in Far East Eastern Studies and an MA in Communications. Mr. Ratner joined Rambam in the middle of 2006.
The Spokesman's Office and Public Affairs is responsible for contacts with the local, national and international media. The Office works in cooperation with Rambam's Public Relations and Marketing offices, in advancing projects that promote Rambam, both to the employees of the hospital and to the wider public.
During the Second Lebanon War of 2006, the Spokesman's Office underwent an unprecedented trial by fire, from the point of view of the scope of the contact of Rambam with the Israeli and international media. The fact that Rambam is the major hospital of northern Israel and, as such, treated the majority of the severely injured, both of the army and the civilian population, while coming under enemy fire itself, exposed Rambam to the world in an unparalleled, extraordinary manner. This war, in which the online media was involved to such a great extent for the first time in Israel, forced the Spokesman's Office to rewrite the work methods of the spokesman of a large medical center. The war proved that the spokesman of a hospital that finds itself on the frontlines has an important task in explaining to and calming the public, and also in helping in the national information efforts, all this, mostly, in real time.
The main function of the Spokesman's Office is to 'export' the knowledge and the information on sites of excellence and the research that is carried out at Rambam for the benefit of the public.
