About Prof. Ish-Shalom is Director of the Bone and Mineral Metabolism Unit, which comprises a research unit where studies on metabolic bone diseases, cancer induced bone disease, innovative therapies in osteoporosis and endocrine disorders (carcinoid, acromegaly) are conducted.

Prof. Ish-Shalom has been one of the pioneers in the use of recombinant PTH and its fragments in the treatment of osteoporosis. She is the author of numerous book chapters and scientific articles.

In the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Ish-Shalom is in charge of the 4th year Endocrinology course and of the licensing program for immigrant physicians. She is also head of the Governmental Committee for Diagnosis and Treatment of Osteoporosis and Bone Diseases. Prof. Ish-Shalom participated in guidelines and consensus developing committees in Israel on the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis, growth hormone treatment in adulthood and on diagnosis and treatment of thyroid cancer.
Education Professor Sophia Ish-Shalom is a graduate of the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine at the Technion– Israel Institute of Technology. She obtained clinical training in Internal Medicine at Carmel Medical Center and in Diabetes and Endocrinology at the Rambam Medical Center. She completed her Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Bone and Mineral Metabolism at the University of Toronto.
Memberships Dr. Ish-Shalom is a member of the medical advisory boards for drug and biotechnology companies that are involved in diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis and bone diseases.
