What is the difference between gestational surrogacy and traditional surrogacy?

There are two types of surrogacy – gestational surrogacy and traditional surrogacy. In a typical gestational surrogacy arrangement, intended parents create embryos through in vitro fertilization. One or more of these embryos is implanted in a surrogate (gestational carrier), who carries the child or children to term, but has no genetic relationship to them.

Gestational surrogates’ makeup the vast majority of modern surrogacy arrangements. By contracts, traditional surrogates typically become pregnant through artificial insemination, and have a genetic connection to the child or children they carry for their intended parents. We do not arrange traditional surrogacies.

Surrogacy in Georgia

Georgia is located in a region known as the Caucasus at the crossroads of Europe and Asia. The capital and largest city of the country is Tbilisi, also known as Tiflis. Georgia is a member of the United Nations and the Council of Europe, amongst other international organizations. Georgia shares borders with Russia (to the North), Azerbaijan (to the South-East), Armenia (to the South), and Turkey (to the south-west).

The Republic of Georgia is one of the few countries located in Europe where surrogacy is legal. Particularly, the law that regulates this third-party assisted reproduction treatment came into force in 1997. The cost and the favorable conditions for both residents and non-residents are the main reasons why childless couples from all around the world pursue surrogacy here.

Georgia’s climate is diverse; although, it is warm and pleasant throughout most of the country. The Greater Caucasus Mountains influence the climate of Georgia by keeping cold northern winds away. The Lesser Caucasus Mountains partially protect the country form dry and hot air masses from the South. Winters are short and rather mild. Spring and Autumn are the wettest seasons, Winter and Summer – the driest. The average temperature in summer is between 20-24 degrees Celsius, in winter 2-4. Humidity is lower.

IVF & Surrogacy

With this program, both parents are linked to the baby. Oocytes are retrieved from the biological mother and semen is collected from the biological father. After creating the embryos, it is transferred to the gestational surrogate mother.

FET & Surrogacy

Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) involves the use of thawed embryos that were frozen in a previous IVF Cycle and transfer of the embryo into the uterus of the gestational surrogate mother.

Donation & Surrogacy

If a woman produces poor-quality eggs or does not produce eggs at all, she has a chance to get pregnant with the help of an egg donor. After creating embryos with the egg donor, they will be transferred to the gestational surrogate mother.
