What is a Thigh Lift?
A Thigh lift, or Thighplasty, removes excess skin and reshapes and tones the thigh area. A thigh lift doesn’t remove fat. Thigh lifts target either the inner thighs, the front and outside of the thighs or the upper thighs. Many thigh lift surgeries are carried out after weight loss. Liposuction, buttock lift or full body lift may also be carried out at the same time as a thigh lift.

How is a Thigh Lift carried out?
The surgeon makes an incision in the thigh and removes excess skin before pulling the remaining skin up and attaching it. Sutures are placed to close the incision.

How long will a Thigh Lift last?
Results from a thigh lift are long-lasting to permanent.

How popular is this type of surgery?
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, over 9,000 thigh lifts were carried out in the USA in 2008. More than 60 percent of thigh lifts were carried out after weight loss.

Duration of procedure/surgery:
Thigh lift surgery takes between 3 and 4 hours to perform.

Days admitted:
Thigh lift is carried out either as an outpatient procedure or with an overnight stay.

Anesthesia:
A thigh lift is carried out under general anesthesia.

Recovery:
Recovery time for a thigh lift is around 2 to 3 weeks for day to day activity and 4 to six 6 for full levels of activity, including exercise and sports. The incision takes around one year to heal.

Risks:
Some risks do exist in a thigh lift procedure. Risks include: - Bruising. - Swelling. - Bleeding and infection. - Scarring.

After care:
- Take prescribed or over-the-counter medication to deal with bruising, swelling and pain after the thigh lift procedure. - Patients may need a compression garment for a few weeks to reduce swelling.
